Principal’s Message: 


This upcoming week will begin the course registration process. Each day at lunch, Hoover will be hosting “Course Rush” where teachers will be available to answer your questions and promote their classes. Please stop by the Student Union at lunch to find out more about various programs on campus and to sign up for courses. 


Additionally, counselors will be visiting classrooms to go over the course registration process. See the Counselor Corner section below to see the schedule by grade level. 


This week, Hoover will also host incoming 9th graders from Toll and Roosevelt Middle Schools on Wednesday to promote the great programs offered at Hoover.


This week also marks the end of our winter season! We want to congratulate all of our student-athletes on a great winter season!!


Please save the date for our Open House, themed "Hoover is Home" on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 5:30-7:30 PM.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER (Students, be sure to check your counselor’s Google Classroom & student email daily)


February is Registration Month! It’s time to start selecting classes for next year. Counselors will visit History, ECA, and 9th grade English classes to present how to register for courses next year. After the classroom visits, teachers will bring down their classes to the Student Union to go over their course selections.Please see the schedule below. 


January 30 & 31    11th Grade Classroom Visits (US Hist./APUSH/ECA)

Hoover’s mandatory AP Information Night is on February 6th. A flier with more details is coming soon. Parent or Guardian, & Student expected to attend. This event is only for students who are new to AP and have never taken an AP class at Hoover.  

           

Seniors, Did you know that *some* CSU Applications are still open! Do you have a 2.5 or above GPA in your A-G classes? Are you interested in attending a 4-year university? If you have not applied, you are lucky! Many Cal States still have their applications open! Some of the schools that are still open are CSUN, San Francisco State University, CSU East Bay, and more! The College and Career Center is having a Scholarship Workshop on Wednesday, February 7th from 8:30-9:00 during enrichment time. Seniors be sure to get help from Mr. Melgar and learn more about scholarships available.


12th Graders, Glendale Community College will be having its Annual Dreamer Student Conference on Friday, March 15th. This conference is an opportunity for undocumented students to receive information about Financial Aid, learn the basics about college, and learn what GCC has to offer for their Dreamer students. There will be free food for those who attend! GCC will also be providing swag bags for everyone! Please email Mr. Melgar at bmelgar@contracted.gusd.net, by Tuesday, if you would like to go. There will be a bus provided if enough students sign up! Remember, there is a lot of money available for students to attend college, no matter what your status is! Hoover HS & Local Scholarships for the Class of 2024

NEW! The California Credit Union Scholarship is now available. This year the credit union will provide a total of $30,000 in scholarships to students who are motivated in their academic studies and active in their schools and communities. Eligibility includes high school seniors and community college students transferring to a four-year university who maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0, academic performance, school or community involvement, a letter of recommendation, and an essay submission.  Applications are available through Friday, March 8, 2024 and winners will be announced on Monday, April 8, 2024. NEW! The Assistance League of Glendale Scholarship (ALG) is now open. The deadline to submit your application to Ms. Iraheta or Mr. Melgar is March 11, 2024. Every year, ALG honors a deserving Hoover High senior with a $2,000 scholarship. The application has been posted in Ms. Iraheta’s Google Classroom or click on the link: ALG Application.


The 2024 Graduating High School Senior Scholarship application period is now open to PTA members graduating from a California high school between January 1 and June 30, 2024. Applications are due to the CA State PTA office on February 1 at 11:59pm. CA PTA scholarship link: https://capta.org/programs-events/scholarships/

The Community Foundation of the Verdugos Scholarships for 2024 is now open. This local organization has granted thousands of dollars to help GUSD and local high school seniors with college scholarships. The deadline to apply is March 4th. Apply online at ttps://cfverdugos.wpengine.com/how-to-apply-for-scholarships/. Click the link to read the description and requirements. Don’t miss this opportunity. Apply early, as many of the scholarships require a recommendation letter, transcripts, and/or personal statement to apply. 


La Crescenta Woman’ Club Scholarship is now open. The LCWC is offering various scholarships. The application must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2024. Link to application: LCWC Application.

Tutoring 

Just a reminder that we are still offering tutoring this spring. Second semester is a fresh start, if you are not happy with your grades or got an F or a D in any A-G or graduation requirement class. Remember, grades of “C” or higher means 4-year colleges and universities. Please reflect on your semester 1 grades. What worked? What didn’t? Communicate with teachers, counselors, admin, coaches. Most importantly, get help and attend tutoring. See the schedule below:
