Solidarity Week Presentation
This week, 11th grade student Jaiden Maraya proudly presented a powerful schoolwide lesson on Solidarity Week on behalf of the Hoover GSA. The presentation highlighted the importance of creating a campus where every student feels welcomed, seen, and supported, especially as Solidarity Week aligns with Transgender Awareness Week. Jayden guided students through the history and significance of LGBTQ+ advocacy, including figures like Marsha P. Johnson, and shared upcoming campus activities such as pledge-signing and the Transgender Day of Remembrance event. The message was clear: kindness, awareness, and allyship matter, and every Tornado plays a role in cultivating an inclusive community.
We are grateful to Jayden and the GSA for leading this important learning opportunity for our school. 🌟

First Semester Grades - Due December 19
The end of the semester is quickly approaching! 1st semester grades are due on December 19.
These grades are final and will appear on your official high school transcript, which becomes part of your permanent academic record.

College Application Resources & Reminders
Here are some resources and reminders while you navigate your college applications based on common questions Mrs. Hernandez is receiving:
-
UC Application
You only complete one application for all the UCs you are applying to. Please ensure you select all the campuses you want to apply to in the application.
For those who took a class summer 2022 after 8th grade before entering 9th grade: Report the summer class taken before 9th grade in the 9th-grade academic year section of the UC application, and then add a note in the Additional Information section explaining that it was a summer course taken after 8th grade. When entering the course, use the dates from the summer course completion month and report the grade earned.
Letters of recommendation are not required.
Fee waiver is embedded in this application - complete the household income/size portion of the application to find out if you qualify!
-
Common App
Please make sure to invite Mrs. Hernandez as a Recommender (enhernandez@gusd.net) for each school you are applying to.
Please make sure you select the preferred admission plan for each school you are applying to (select the tab "General" under each university). This helps Mrs. Hernandez know when your letters of recommendation are due.
Letters of recommendation are required. Please complete the linked brag sheet, print, and submit to the counseling office. Brag sheets are due by Friday, November 14. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tcOLXzB5EjjVt7nmJtM_G7P37WyLWiwkQjmojFGLYFM/edit?usp=sharing
Fee waiver is embedded in this application - read through
-
Final Reminders
We do not rank at Hoover HS. Please type or choose NA if you are asked this question.
For any additional questions, please reach out to Mrs. Hernandez (enhernandez@gusd.net) or Ms. Arroyo (marroyo@contracted.gusd.net).

College Application Support
College application season is officially in full swing! The CSU and UC deadlines are quickly approaching, with November 30th less than four weeks away. We encourage all seniors to submit their applications early, reach out for support, and double-check that everything is filled out correctly.
Our College Adviser, Ms. Arroyo, is hosting a variety of application support events this month to help with Common App, UC, and CSU applications. She’ll also offer drop-in hours throughout November where students can ask questions, work on their applications, and get one-on-one guidance.
Students can visit Room 2101 (College & Career Center) for help or see the flyer for more details.
In addition, the Counseling Office will host an all-day College Application Swarm on Thursday, November 20th in the Collaboratory as part of College Week! This will be a great opportunity for students to finalize and submit their applications with counselor support. A list of registered students will be shared by Tuesday, November 18th.
Let’s continue to build a strong college-going culture at Hoover! Encourage students to take advantage of these resources and support opportunities. We can’t wait to celebrate all the amazing colleges our Tornadoes will be applying to and getting accepted at!

Staying on Track: Graduation & College Opportunities for Seniors
Mrs. Hernandez (12th Grade Counselor) and Ms. Arroyo (College Adviser) visited all 12th grade English classes to review graduation requirements, A–G eligibility, and post-secondary opportunities. These classroom visits ensure every senior has the information they need to stay on track for graduation and prepare for life after high school.
We encourage students to take advantage of upcoming college workshops and college representative visits—great opportunities to get personalized guidance and learn more about their future options.
Students & families can view the full presentation below.

College & Scholarship Application Tracker
To help your student stay organized with deadlines and requirements, I created a College & Scholarship Application Tracker. This tool allows students to keep track of applications, essays, recommendation letters, financial aid, and scholarships in one place.
Please note: families must make a copy of the tracker in order to use it.
Instructions:
Open the tracker here: College & Scholarship Application Tracker.
In the top menu, click File → Make a copy.
Save the copy to your own Google Drive.
Your student can then begin entering their colleges and scholarships.
This resource is optional but highly recommended to keep students on top of their deadlines and organized throughout senior year.
