If you have not already done so, please complete the Annual Student Information Update in the Q Parent Portal as soon as possible. The update was due August 31.

Families are required to review and update their contact information each year. This is also where families now provide household income information, which was previously collected through the Free and Reduced Lunch Application/LCFF Survey.

Providing household income information may help your student qualify for:

• Free AP exams – save $99 per exam
• College application fee waivers – save $70+ per college
• SAT/ACT fee waivers – save $60+ per test
• Free or reduced-price meals
• Other school benefits and discounts
  
  

Even if you believe your family may not qualify for these benefits, please complete the update and provide the requested income information. This information also helps Hoover receive important funding and resources that support our students and programs.

College Application Season Is Here! Are you working on your university college applications and have questions or need some help? Join us for our College Application Swarm on October 8 during periods 1 and 2 in Room 3210!

Counselors and college advisors from across the district will be available to provide one-on-one support with your college and university applications. 

Important: You Must RSVP! 
If you would like to attend, you must complete the Google Form to RSVP. Only students who RSVP will receive a Minga sticker, which will serve as your pass to attend the College Application Swarm.

Please do not come to the event without a Minga sticker. You will only be admitted if you have one.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and get the support you need as you work toward your college goals!

The CSU College Night is an opportunity for you to connect with the 22 CSU campuses and learn what each school has to offer!

Attention 10th & 11th Grade Families! The Practice SAT or PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on October 8, 2026. Please save the date and mark your calendars! 

All juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT for free during periods 1 & 2.

10th grade students may take the PSAT but must purchase the exam in the Student Store at lunch. 

Deadline to purchase exam: Thursday, September 17 at lunch

Cost $18 (cash or check)

The PSAT is a great opportunity to practice for the SAT and receive valuable feedback on college-readiness skills. For juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT also provides an opportunity to qualify for National Merit Scholarship recognition.

Register for the GUSD College and Career Fair!

The GUSD College and Career Fair is on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Glendale High School! This is your opportunity to connect with dozens of college representatives in-state and out of state! This is also your opportunity to explore different college opportunities and learn what different schools have to offer! Want to pursue a trade program or military? Explore these great options at the College and Career Fair!

Connecting with college reps is crucial because they are your main point of contact for admissions questions and they will be the ones evaluating your applications! At the College and Career Fair, you will be given a barcode that colleges can scan to receive your contact information. It is important to register via Strive Fair so that you can also have access to College Rep Info. California Colleges is the official California and GUSD platform with tools to help students explore careers, majors, colleges, and trade schools—all for free! College rep visits are an excellent way to explore schools you’re interested in, connect directly with admissions representatives, and learn about programs, scholarships, and opportunities you may not find online. The 5-week grading period ends Friday, September 18. Families will be able to view grades in the Parent and Student Portals the following week.

Teachers are required to report D and F grades during this grading period. If a student is earning a C or better, teachers may report the grade, but they are not required to do so.

Need Help? Visit The SPOT! Not happy with your grades or need a little extra support? Visit The SPOT in the Collaboratory for academic help.

Students earning an F in a class will be required to report to that teacher during EO for additional support. Students should check the MINGA app to see where they are assigned to report.

Students who are not failing a class may report to any available open EO space.

Counselors visited the English classes this fall & delivered grade-level-specific lessons to all students. Our lessons are aligned with the ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets & Behaviors and include specific learning objectives to ensure students receive meaningful, relevant information that supports their academic, college/career, and personal growth.

Our next round of classroom lessons will take place in the spring of 2027 and will focus on preparing students for registration and course selection for the upcoming school year.

During the first five weeks of school, counselors deliver schoolwide Student Connect lessons in addition to our regular Monday Educational Opportunity (EO) time, allowing counselors to connect with students across campus.

After the first five weeks, Student Connect takes place every Monday from 11:10–11:25 a.m. during EO time. This also marks the start of our regular EO schedule, when students report to tutoring or designated free spaces based on their grades and Minga assignment.

During Student Connect, counselors provide engaging schoolwide presentations on topics such as:

• Social-emotional wellness
• Academic success strategies
• College and career readiness
• School resources, opportunities, and important updates
  
  

Through Student Connect, counselors provide students with timely information and resources to help them thrive.
