DREAM BIG, ACHIEVE MORE!

Principal’s Message:

At Hoover we encourage all of our students to “Dream Big, Achieve More!”

I encourage all of our students to strive to do their very best everyday, build lasting relationships, and be engaged in all activities.

At Hoover we believe all students should be respectful, responsible, and engaged everyday! As a reminder, all of our students have had their expectations assemblies held this past week. Students are expected to be in class on time everyday and follow our new cell phone and electronics policy. Violations of these policies will lead to consequences. If you have not signed the Student Handbook Acknowledgement, please do so by clicking HERE

At Hoover, we continue to promote a College-Going Culture. We will be hosting more reps from various colleges and universities this week. Our 2nd annual College Week will take place November 18-22. As a reminder for Senior parents, UC and Cal State Apps are due December 2. Our counselors and college advisor are here to support all of our Seniors as they apply for college!!

Attendance is important!!! We know that when students are in school, students achieve! We highly encourage any appointments are scheduled outside of school hours so as not to miss instruction. However, if your child has an appointment, please ensure that your child still attends school outside of their appointment time, even if they are only able to attend some periods. We want to see your child every day even if it is only a portion of the school day. Please call an administrator for any questions.

Congrats to the Hoover Football Team for their big win over Glendale High, where the Bell will stay at its rightful place at Hoover!!!

Our Fall athletics season continues! Please support our Boys Waterpolo, Football, Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis, and Cross Country teams throughout the season!!

Additionally, please continue to support our award winning Hoover Tornado Marching Band and our championship Pep Team.

As a reminder to all students and families, at Hoover we promote a safe and inclusive environment for all students and staff. We have no tolerance for any hate speech or hurtful language. Any students using such language will receive serious consequences.

As always, Tornados are Responsible, Respectful, and Engaged!

The Saban Research Institute of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a leader in pediatric research, is offering up to 24 paid summer research internships for the 2025-26 Samuels Family Latino and African American High School Internship Program, better known as LA-HIP. LA-HIP is for rising seniors (current juniors) with an interest in a career in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and who attend public high schools in greater Los Angeles. LA-HIP combines biomedical research with intensive college counseling workshops, academic enhancement, and Princeton Review SAT preparatory curriculum.  We have scheduled 2 virtual informational sessions throughout November to January. In those sessions, we will go into detail to explain our eligibility criteria, program offerings, and application tips. Please use the attached Informational Session document so your students can register. If the virtual info session dates do not work for your students, we are also currently scheduling virtual visits to attend classroom sessions and career fairs.

The summer program begins June 16th, 2025, and ends with the Science Symposium in early August. The internship is daily Monday through Friday for this seven-week period.  The program provides a stipend, Metro pass, and meals in the hospital cafeteria. After the summer has ended, the students continue to meet with their assigned college counselor from the summer. The application can be found on our website when it opens on November 4th, 2023. If you would like to learn more about our program and see where our interns have ended up, please visit www.chla.org/lahip.
